Dr. Arindam Chakraborty, VP of Advanced Engineering at VIAS will be presenting "Subsea Mudmat Design using 3D FEA Based Integrated Model" at the SIMULIA Technology Day.
Abstract: Traditionally, design and sizing of mudmat for subsea structures such as Pipeline End Termination (PLET) follow the limit equilibrium methods in API RP 2GEO. A more rigorous simplified integrated analysis approach that involves a single finite element analysis (FEA) model including both the pipeline and jumpers together along with the soil-mudmat interaction modeled as non-linear springs was developed to verify and quantify any conservatism inherent in the traditional approach.

Dr. Burak Ozturk
Dr. Ozturk is a mechanical engineer with over 10 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry. He has a strong theoretical background in thermal-fluid sciences, structural design, and analysis, mechanical components and design, and FEA. Founded VIAS in September 2015 to place the company at the cutting edge of industry technology and innovation through identifying directions, collaboration and facilitating, and managing internal/external R&D projects. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Houston, and lectures on a course in "Pipeline Design" in the Mechanical Engineering Department. He also teaches in the College of Technology, where he is a member of the Industry Advisory Board (IAB). He holds over twenty five conference and journal publications, and is an expert in his field. Dr. Arindam Chakraborty

Dr. Chakraborty is a mechanical engineer with more than 10 years of strong academic and consulting experience in solid mechanics and design, non-linear FEA, fatigue and fracture mechanics, reliability analysis, composites and elastomers in Oil & Gas, Nuclear (BWR, PWR, CANDU), and Structural Design. He has worked on many technical projects for Nuclear Power Plant Class 1 components conducting code based analysis (ASME Sec. III and XI), probabilistic fracture mechanics (xLPR, PRAISE-CANDU), LBB assessment. He also delivered courses for engineers at KEPCO and CNPC. He also has a strong background in project management, business development, strategy and technology development, with a focus on public safety regulations (BSEE, NRC). Dr. Chakraborty has technical knowledge and working skills in CAE techniques and widely known structural analysis software such as Abaqus. He also has experience in CFD using Fluent to model flow in reactor cooling systems. He has experience in automating complex engineering problems using codes in FORTRAN/C/C#/VBA/Java/Python including Abaqus automation scripts. Dr. Chakraborty has more than twenty conference and journal publications and is closely involved with ASME Codes & Standards committee and API task groups.
