We are happy to announce that VIAS will be presenting a Fitness for Service (FFS) webinar for Young Pipeline Professionals USA on Thursday, August 16th, 2018.
What is FFS?
Fitness for Services (FFS) is the “the ability to demonstrate the structural integrity of an in-service component containing a flaw or damage.”
- Provides quantitative engineering analysis tool to determine whether a component is fit for continued service
- Addresses imperfection in the equipment fabrication or in-service degradation
- Helps make informed decision on repair/replacement /inspection intervals
- Provides a rational approach for the effects of flaws on structural integrity
FFS is based on API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 codes and it is an interdisciplinary approach which requires knowledge on type of damage, environmental impact on material behavior, stress analysis, operating conditions and inspection tools.
With FFS you may study key defects such as:
- General / Local Metal Loss
- Pitting Corrosion
- Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC)
- Hydrogen Blisters, HIC
- Crack-Like Flaws
- Dents and Gouges
This webinar will be presented by VIAS’ VP of Advanced Engineering, Arindam Chakraborty, PhD, PE (TX, CA).
Dr. Chakraborty has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa, and has over nine years of experience in solid mechanics and design, non-linear FEA, fatigue and fracture mechanics, reliability analysis, composite structures in Oil & Gas, Nuclear and Structural Design. His areas of expertise lies in Solid Mechanics & Design, ASME Code (Sections II, III, VIII) Based Strength and Fatigue Analysis, Fitness-for-Service (FFS) Assessment (API 579), System Reliability, Component Reliability and Optimization, Probabilistic Analysis. He has managed many FFS projects, provides training in FFS, Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics, FEA, Probabilistic Analysis. Dr. Chakraborty engages with Pressure Vessels and Piping conference committees, chaired conference sessions, involved with ASME & API code committees and has extensive journal & conference publications.
